Whirlwind of Whitman in Walla Walla

Yesterday we piggy-backed a field trip with Yakima Junior Academy's 5-6 grade class and their teacher, Miss Bechtel.

The day began with a tour and hike at Whitman Mission, a walk across Walla Walla University Campus, a picnic lunch at Kiwanis Park and finished the day with another tour through Fort Walla Walla.

The kids originally met at Camp MiVoden earlier this year for Outdoor School. We really enjoyed the time together and have great memories of the day.

Mirror, Mirror

When you wake up in the morning and you mosey on into the bathroom, do you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror? What do you see? What do you think?

Girls and boys today struggle more with their image than any other generation before. The media has slithered its way into every aspect of entertainment, socialization, and reality causing a fear in kids of even looking in the mirror.

Today we ripped into some high profile fashion magazines and looked at the models and advertisements pinpointing what is expected of people who want to be "pretty" or "talented".

This week my students have been assigned an activity that involves staring at themselves in the mirror not to fix the flaws but to embrace the face God created for them.

Give yourself a boost and say, at minimum, ten nice things about yourself TO yourself. Encourage yourself with genuine appreciation for the person God has made you to be.

Now what do you think?
